President of Hendi Center Koloseum, Darko Ivic, and representatives of the Secretariat of Transport 01.10.2010, attended the commissioning of four traffic lights with audible signals, adapted for people with disabilities. Traffic lights are placed at the corner of Nemanjina street and Svetozar Markovic street.
These are traffic lights with acoustic signaling, which give a signal that the street can be passed, and a pedestrian crossing is covered by tactile panels.
At the traffic light was set up and clock with the running time, which shows how much time will be open to traffic lights, as well as ramps for easy wheelchair descent from the sidewalk to driveway. We chose this intersection because in Nemanjina street are placed very important institutions and large frequency of people with disabilities - said Ivic.
According to him, it is planned that these traffic lights are installed at the intersection at the Faculty of Law, because the university has a lot of students who are blind or visually impaired.
Head of the Secretariat managing traffic flows for traffic, Ljubisa Ljubic, said that the essence of signposting on the traffic lights for people with disabilities is to enable easier movement or to obtain additional information that they are not able to receive.
Now we are working on 11 other locations around the city, and a model of the new signage is the same for all categories of persons with disabilities - said Ljubic.
