10. April 2016. | Belgrade
City Manager Goran Vesic, Deputy Chairperson of the Assembly Andrea Radulovic and City Council member Dragomir Petronijevic, 10 April 2016 start-up ramp for the disabled, which was set up at the initiative of the President of the Association Hendi Center "Coliseum" Darko Ivic in front of Library "Borislav Pekic".
Vesić thanked to Ivic on the initiative and urged people with disabilities to address PC "Gradsko stambeno" or "Beokom service" if they have a request for setting up the ramp.
City of Belgrade, together with organizations that serve people with disabilities, set almost 100 ramps for people with disabilities who live in apartment buildings, which are set at the request of the tenants. The rest is to set up a dozen ramps, because so many requests are filed - said Vesic.
He pointed out that the budget provided funds for an additional 150 ramps, and expressed hope that this number will be sufficient to set up the necessary ramps for people with disabilities in residential buildings.
- The second step is to cover public institutions, this does not apply only to municipalities but also to this type of public institutions such as libraries, where concerts are held as well as other similar places - said Vesic and concluded that the maturity of a society is measured, among other things, the way in which a society treats people with disabilities, minorities, the elderly and children.
Dragomir Petronijevic also thanked Darko Ivic, as well as other associations because they restore confidence in the City of Belgrade.
- City of Belgrade in the last year would not have managed to make 100 ramp for disabled people without direct communication with them. There is still a lot of problems, but we are solving them slowly, because we work directly with associations and persons with disabilities - said Petronijevic and thanked to the Deputy President of the Belgrade City Council Andrea Radulovic because this ramp was completed in just three days.
According to him, this library allows all persons with disabilities a free membership and invited that person to join the library to read and socialize at literary evenings.
He recalled that the City of Belgrade helps this people to find a job through the Employment Council, and also added that this action is joined by other municipalities, primarily Vozdovac and Zemun, which hold regular meetings with disabled people.
Darko Ivic thanked the City of Belgrade and especially to Goran Vesic and Dragomir Petronijevic because they very quickly reacted to the initiative and implement it in practice and recalled all the possibilities that this library offers.
