In the City Hall in Zrenjanin, 12 February 2014 presented the project of establishing the service of personal assistance services for persons with disabilities.

The presentation was organized by the City of Zrenjanin and Central Banat administrative district, in cooperation with NGOs Coloseum Belgrade, Municipality of Old town Belgrade and the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation in Belgrade, whose representatives participated in this meeting.
The participants were welcomed by Mayor middle Banat administrative district Dusan Sijan, who stressed the importance of this event, not only for the city of Zrenjanin, but for the entire county.

- In this way we help our fellow citizens with disabilities. The city and county have a certain experience, which we will present to our guests from Belgrade and it is a great thing that today will begin training for some of our fellow citizens who will provide services to professional or personal assistant to people with disabilities. The plan is to train twenty men, as is the case in other areas, but it will depend on the number of people to whom this kind of help will be needed. This is, also, the chance that some young people come to work - said Chief Šijan, adding that the law provides that the activities financed by the local government.

The presentation was attended by representative local NGOs to help people with disabilities and representatives of local governments of Central Banat District and the competent institutions of social and health care, with the aim to get acquainted with the experience of good practice and enable the implementation of training programs for personal assistants.

The entire project is titled “Training for start-up and development of service-personal assistance services in the cities of Serbia” and provides for a number of seminars for representatives of non-governmental organizations to help people with disabilities in towns across Serbia.

The project is a non-governmental organization Hendi Center Colosseum from Belgrade, which began in 2009 with the implementation of the project of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy called Establishing service - Agency for psychosocial support and personal assistance for people with disabilities in Belgrade. They are today presented their experience in the business.

Since the new Law on Social Protection predicts the obligation of local governments to fund and organize social services (personal assistance, gerontology nurses, tele-assistance and living room) showed the need for cooperation with non-governmental organizations in order to enable them to assume the role of perpetrators Affairs of personal assistance services, so and improving other social services.

The meeting was also attended by Risto Raco, representative of the Belgrade municipality of Old town, with a presentation on the topic “ Stimulation of local government on the introduction and development of new social services in the community “. He said that help is much needed personal assistance for people with disabilities, especially when it comes to children.

- Personal assists allows normal, active support for these persons to perform their daily living needs, especially in the context of inclusive education. Today, children with disabilities and people with disabilities have to go to school, someone has to take care of them, and parents often are not in a situation. In the domain of local governments is to organize and fund personal assistance services, but it is important to note that, for the first time, these services may be performed by individuals or non-governmental organizations. This is a chance for a kind of social entrepreneurship - said Risto Raco.

In front of the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation in Belgrade, presentation was held by professor Dr. Goran Nedović. He presented the topic entitled “Education psychosocial therapists and personal assistants for people with disabilities” in order to improve the knowledge and competence in the field of psychosocial support and personal assist for people with disabilities.
